As a sound engineer over the last 20 years I’ve had the privilege to work with some great artists, and in some unusual and challenging places, from venues such as the King’s Place, Brighton Dome and Southbank Centre to festivals such as Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival and Womad, from abandoned warehouses to major UK concerts halls.
I’ve mixed many genres from noise to music theatre, experimental sound art, jazz, contemporary classical, electronica, Indian classical and many other non-western musics.
I supply high quality PA to a wide range of clients, from conferences to concerts, from art installations to meetings.
Well maintained stocks include equipment from top manufacturers including D & B Audiotechnik, Nexo, AKG, DPA, Neumann and Soundcraft.
I can also score read and am familiar with graphic scores and text-based pieces.
Central Criminal Court (Old Bailey) Events
Providing equipment hire and sound engineering alongside projection, lighting and specialist crew as a Preferred Supplier for this historic venue.
Turner Sims Concert Hall
I am the principle PA supplier and engineer for this busy yet acoustically challenging concert hall. Shows span a wide range of genres and have included Benjamin Zephaniah, Courtney Pine, Bill Frisell, and Vieux Farka Toure. A distributed system of multiple fills is used to create even coverage over a wide and steep rake for a mix of UK and international touring artists.
Providing equipment hire and sound engineering alongside tour management for several UK tours over the past few years, taking in venues such as Purcell Room (Southbank Centre) and Band on the Wall, Manchester as well as rural tours. I currently tour as sound engineer for their artist June Tabor and her project with Iain Ballamy and Huw Warren, Quercus.
Providing PA, sound engineering and crew for much of their 2017 and 2018 UK tour of The Jazz Ticket, a project partnering school big bands with professional jazz musicians.
Iain Chamber’s House of Sound
I designed, with sound artist Iain Chambers, the system for this 25 loudspeaker surround sound project premiered outside the Guildhall in central London. The piece charted the history of London through sound with both multi-channel playback and live performers.
Opera North Projects
Providing sound engineering alongside tour management for Jan Bang and Matt Calvert’s live soundtrack to the 1925 silent film Battleship Potemkin.
For the last 8 years I have provided PA, lighting, backline, stage management and sound engineering to this international festival of experimental music and sound art, including octophonic systems and concerts in unusual places.
Hampstead Garden Suburb Trust
Sound engineering and equipment hire for all their public meetings including the provision of loop systems.
Touring sound engineer for Athelas Sinfonietta (Denmark) and Annie Gosfield’s (USA) Fading Frequencies tour.

Ran Kan Kan

As well as being OCM’s production manager and concert progammer I also cover their events as sound engineer. I’ve mixed Japanese Kotos in arboretums, African Koras in hospitals and everything from Estonian folk to electronica in Oxford’s internationally famous venues.
